Southern Star Series – Round 2 Report
Griffith Southern Stars Round 2
With round 2 of the Southern star series being held in Griffith on Saturday and Sunday May 21 and 22 the weather conditions proved to be just mint. Drivers travelled from all over the state to experience the great Griffith track and enjoy the local hospitality. As usual, Tracey and Brad in the canteen provided excellent food over the weekend. With around 100 drivers in attendance it clearly demonstrates that country karting is all about good times and good racing with plenty of smiles on the days.
The Griffith track was run in the anticlockwise direction with pit corner providing a great vantage point for spectators up close to the action. Drivers at full speed down the straight coming into a hairpin bend creates spectacular racing.
KA4 Junior light was dominated by Thomas Sargent with Charles McLandsborough and Lachlan Lawson exchanged places throughout the day with Charles taking 2nd and Lachlan third for the day. KA4 Junior Heavy saw Canberra’s Tayla Harnas undertake a clean sweep with Chloe Cosis in second. The girls got it done in style with Nicholas Caruso in third place. KA4 Senior Heavy proved to be hard close fought racing but it was a clean win for Stephen Roffe in first, Scott Rapmund second and Chris Fealy in third. KA3 Senior Heavy was one of the feature races for spectators, which saw a large field and multiple race heat winners. Dubbo’s Luke Wrigley managed to take the win ahead of Joseph Tighe and Nicholas Cooley.
The Griffith Kart Club thanks everyone involved for a great two days of racing. It takes many dedicated people to make a successful race meeting, this includes the drivers and pit crews, officials and support staff and also our fantastic spectators. We look forward to the next round to be held in Canberra.
